The reality is there are hundreds, if not thousands, of fashion blogs out there. And there are just as many personal finance blogs. Many in both categories are very good. The problem is the intersection between the two is often unfairly reduced to a mantra along the lines of, “Buy cheaper clothes.” I use the word “unfair” because it is simply unfair to gate-keep the world of fashion (including designer goods) as a place only accessible to the elite. It is also simply unfair to teach that in order to be financially savvy you mustn’t spend a lot of money on any clothing item, barring you to fast fashion and big-box stores for all your wardrobe needs.
Because of this I found myself operating outside of the standard lessons described above. They didn’t sit well with me because I knew they weren’t true.
I knew they weren’t true because I was actively building a stellar closet (that not only made me feel great but also allowed me to participate in the fashion world that I love dearly) while also spending less money overall on clothing than my peers. After years of having general rules and concepts for how I was achieving such a feat I decided that I needed to share it in a formal setting…because I believe it would be unfair not to.
